  • What is the A-List Theater Franchise?

    • A-List is a franchise of single screen theaters that combine the fun and romance of single screen theaters with the cost-effective high-definition digital delivery and projection technology. The A-List Theater Franchise is the only franchise of first-run theaters in America today (all other chains being exclusively company owned), and the only theater chain committed to reviving the golden age of the single-screen movie theater. Moreover, the A-List franchise has licensed the patented technology and business model behind the open-theater network, confirming our place as the exclusive digital theater franchise.

  • Why should I buy an A-List franchise (What sets A-List apart)?

    • A-List franchise theaters have a fun and entertaining environment where all ages of movie fans can watch their favorite films in neighborhood theaters instead of distant malls or megaplexes. Visiting an A-List franchise theater is a fun, no-stress, commercial free experience, where noisy pre-movie national advertising, non-movie product displays, and annoying product giveaways are banned for the peace-of-mind of the audience.  A-List franchise theaters feature great movies in a relaxed setting, where audiences will be drawn back time-after-time, not just for the movies, but to meet friends and neighbors and enjoy the fun of a night at the movies.

  • Will audiences be able to find times and locations online?

    • Yes. The A-List franchise will participate in an online screening time and ticketing website.  There is no better advertising than instant, up-to-date information about theater times, locations, directions, and preview trailers, and the A-List franchise has secured this valuable service for A-List franchise business owners.

  • How does online ticketing work?

    • The A-List franchise participates in an online ticketing website. Entertainment industry research has found that long ticket lines are one of the three most common reasons that potential viewers do not attend a particular theater screening, so A-List has provided its franchise business owners with a clear advantage over other theater chains.

  • Does A-List help with site selection?

    • The A-List franchise staff will consult with you regarding the area and venue that you would like to open in. One of the great aspects of the A-List Theater Franchise is that franchise owners are encouraged to explore neighborhood locations, such as existing historical theaters or theaters in redevelopment areas, and dual-use venues such as restaurants, coffee shops, night clubs, bowling alleys, churches, and other retail venues.  A-List Theater Franchise venues are only limited by the imagination of the franchise owner. Of course A-List staff will review all proposed venues for suitability with the high-quality, fun environment that A-List audiences expect.

  • Who negotiates the lease?

    • You are free to negotiate a suitable lease, based on your needs and location. A-List staff is available to consult regarding lease issues. It is recommended that you have your lease or any other documents reviewed by your own business advisor as well.

  • What type of locations is A-List looking for?

    • A typical location will be in either an existing single screen theater building, such as may be found as a historical preservation site or in a redevelopment area, or a dual-use venue such as a restaurant, large coffee shop, night club, bowling alley, church, and other retail venues with appropriate square footage. In all cases, locations should have good visibility, strong traffic patterns and good signage placement, as well as be within a short drive from a residential neighborhood. A-List also encourages the building of new single screen theater venues, thereby reviving the neighborhood movie theater tradition and incorporating the newest audience amenities and conveniences.

  • Can I own more than 1 location?

    • Yes, in fact, after you purchase your first franchise you can place a deposit down on up to 5 additional theater locations.

  • How much money can I make?

    • Based on Federal and State franchising laws, the A-List Theater Franchise is limited in how much information we can supply on potential earnings. However, theater operation is a highly profitable business, and by utilizing high definition digital projection and delivery technology and obtaining movies directly from distribution partners, the A-List Theater Franchise has reduced the major costs of running an independent theater.

  • Can I receive earnings and financial information about A-List?

    • We are prohibited by the FTC from providing specific earnings and financial information to potential franchise owners. The movie theater business is also highly competitive, especially as digital technology emerges to challenge the multiplex operators, and confidentiality is a valuable weapon in this competitive industry. A-List is a privately held company that does not provide sales data, profitability information, or theater counts, and protects its family of franchise business owners from such disclosures as well. This policy has given A-List a distinct advantage over multiplex theater chains.

  • What is a UFDD and when can I review it?

    • A UFDD, Uniform Franchise Disclosure Document, is a legal document that we are required by law to supply you. You will receive a copy of this after you submit a survey application to us.

  • Where do I buy my theater equipment and furnishings?

    • A-List Theaters has negotiated special pricing through national vendors for much of the technical equipment and furnishings that will be needed in the theater.

  • Where do I buy my movies?

    • Because the A-List Theater Franchise is a part of a distribution network, franchise business owners are provided access to both studio films and also independent and foreign titles. Moreover, A-List has licensed patented technology to distribute movies in a low-cost high definition digital format, saving the theater owner hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in expensive projection equipment.

  • Will I be able to sell DVDs and other exciting merchandise for A-List movies?

    • Yes. Unlike the traditional model of film distribution where theater owners are cut out of the revenue of DVD and merchandise sales, A-List views the theater owner as the vital link between movies and audiences.  Therefore, A-List Theater Franchise owners have the unique and highly profitable right to sell DVDs and merchandise of participating films.  This will allow audiences and fans to buy DVDs and merchandise for movies they love as they walk out of the theater!

  • Will I be able to sell A-List hats, shirts and related merchandise?

    • Yes. A-List is a distinctive brand, and is building a national following that trusts A-List to Bring Back the Fun™ of the movies.  Franchise owners will have the right to sell A-List branded merchandise and products at the theater, another profitable advantage to the A-List Theater Franchise business model.
